Operation Fenkil, a decisive military operation during the Eritrean War of Independence, was led by General Sebhat Ephrem, a key commander of the Eritrean People's Liberation Front (EPLF). It took place in February 1990 and aimed to liberate the strategic port city of Massawa from Ethiopian forces. This was a turning point in the war against the Derg regime and liberation of Eritrea.
